I started The Happiness Project in 2012. Anyone who doesn’t know what this is, it can be found http://gretchenrubin.com/books/the-happiness-project/about-the-book/
I gave the One Sentence Journal to my daughter for Christmas 2011. My hubby thought it was cool so I bought him one too and decided to try it myself as well.
There is space to write something that made me happy every day for 5 years.
Well, five years later, it is finished.
The close of 2016 made my journal complete.
Have I kept up with writing??
Yes, I did!
Most days, I wrote a small sentence about something I did that day that made me feel happy. Often it was about my daughter, my hubby or my dogs (my favourite things!). Often it was about naps and getting enough sleep! Or relaxing. Sometimes it was about my friends and family
Admittedly, there were days (very few, luckily) that had few positive things but the sun still shone and that is always a good thing. I did tend to write a lot of what I DID, instead of how it made me feel or a HAPPY thing.
A few stressful things went on in the summer and December so I decided that my word for 2017 will be CALM.
I am just going to try to not let things get to me- which I am usually really good at.
Who has a word for the year!?
A small sample of my 27 years as an RN.
I have worked in Toronto, Florida, and Little Rock, Arkansas. For the past 18 years I have worked in Niagara!
I don't feel older. I don't feel 50- especially since the server at lunch the other day guessed my age at early 30s. Okay, she was only 23 but still.
My birthday party went well. To the people who came to celebrate, I thank you.
I appreciate it.
I am not really much of a party person - but I really wanted to celebrate my 50th. I never had a big 1st wedding (which in hind-site is good), no baby shower that someone threw for me. So just once, I wanted a 'me' party. So I was planning it, along with my daughter and hubby, for a while.
It was fun! The people who came were great!
It was nice catching up with those I hadn't seen in a while.
But there were a lot of people who didn't come who should have been there. A lot of people who never RSVP'd at all, or who said they were coming and did not. This is disappointing beyond measure.
I am not doing a 'poor me' cry by any means
life is short.
Spend it with the ones you care about.
I have seen people drive 3 hours to spend 10 minutes at a funeral.
I really want people to make the effort while I am alive.
and a wee bit of food for Community Care
FROM MY DAUGHTER - So I'd just like to wish this lovely lady right here the happiest of birthdays!!!🎉 The big 5️⃣0️⃣!!! You've been there by my side through everything, even when no one else was. I don't know what I'd do without you in this world. I'm glad that you're my mom but the fact that you don't look anything like your age is nice because people still mistake us for sisters 👯 Even though I'm repulsive in public with my burping & I complain about everything, thank you for always being there for the laughs 😂 that have no reason & the cries that do. I notice our similarities more & more each day & I wouldn't want it any other way. Happy 50th Birthday Mother dear!
I had to take my dog Spirit to the ER veterinarian on Sunday because she was having difficulty peeing. Turns out she had a huge stone in her bladder!!
She is home and feeling better.
Boy oh boy, ER vets are expensive!!!!
I am in the process of getting rid of stuff that I don't need. I call it: decrapification!!
It is a bit easier as My Guy went away for the weekend and it is much easier to get things done when no one is home.
My daughter is at her summer job- which is about 4 hours away so it is quiet here. Not counting the dogs who go nuts when there is any noise outside. I took this stuff to Value Village today! The black tool box is also filled with crap, I mean stuff.
I put my old bike up on Kijiji last night and in 6 minutes, I got a response. (I had to get a new bike because the back axle broke- or at least I think that was the problem- so I am just selling it for parts or if someone can fix it.) I sold the old one last night for $10. Forty minutes it took for the ad to go up until the guy picked it up. I bought another bike for about $90 about 2 weeks ago. It isn't brand new but it is in good shape.
My old bike died on a nice 30km ride with some cadets near the middle of June, eh? At least it happened close to our destination! It was 15 years old.
This was the ad to sell it: This is Betsy. Betsy is my bike. She has been with me for about 15 years now. That is a long time. I appreciate Betsy. But now Betsy is broken (the back axle, I think) and she needs a new home. Maybe someone else can fix her. Or maybe someone can use her parts for other bikes. Betsy won’t mind. If you want to come and meet Betsy, let me know by message. My daughter also wants to sell her bike and get another one sometime. The same guy is coming this morning to buy hers! Her bike is hard to pedal. I don't like it.
Soooooo, I shall continue with selling or donating the things that I don't need anymore.
